December 24, 2015: The World Meets America Report spoke to French commentator Pierre Rousselin about terrorism in France and the United States and the year that was; Donald Trump and the right-wing tilt of politics in and out of America; and the explosive new column by investigative reporter Seymour Hersh [See video interview below]. Hersh alleges that the Defense Intelligence Agency long ago concluded that if Bashar al-Assad were toppled, Syria could end up in the hands of Islamic State and that to prevent this, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, without the knowledge of the White House, provided assistance to the Assad regime. The column also explains how U.S. aid for ‘moderate rebels’ ended up in the hands of Islamic State and al-Nusra, meaning that after spending trillions on a supposed “war against terror,” Washington has been funding the other side. William Kern expresses amazement at allegations of treason on the part of the Joint Chiefs, and asks Rousselin what the American people should do in the event of a mutiny on the part of America’s senior military leaders. Rousselin talks Kern down, expressing doubt about the allegations of treason. The question also arises how Turkey can possibly be permitted to remain in NATO when, as Hersh alleges, it is actively aiding terrorists from around the world to enter Syria to fight with ISIS.
